Happy Friday, Collaborators!

Monday was a big day for us, we submitted our first grant application! It was lots of learning, it was a great experience in working together, we have lots of good info ready for future applications and we might even be awarded a grant! Special thanks to Felicia, Chad, Sadie and Gift for making it all happen.

In other news, we learned that the Marshallese are not interested in participating in the grant, it seems we underestimated the level of cultural sensitivity around support for mental health issues. We’ll refocus our efforts with building trust and rapport so we can better understand the Marshallese and the immigrant and refugee communities in the Delta Neighborhood. This way we hope to find successful opportunities for collaboration.

Another grant is in the works, the Zonta club grant is due on Halloween. It is a simpler application and Felicia is leading the charge. We are requesting incentives for community participation:

  • Stipend for in meetings, trainings, and other events
  • Translation and interpreter services
  • Child care for meetings/trainings/events
  • Backbone support

How would you like to be represented at the Marshallese Health Fair on 11/17? We’ll provide an update on what’s being planned and offer ways to get involved at our next monthly meeting. If there are topics you would like to see on the agenda for the November 1st meeting of the collaborative, please let Sadie know or come prepared to add it during our agenda build.

Till next time!
